We were blessed with a beautiful weekend so we decided to take advantage of it and take the Harley to the Brandywine area of Eastern Pennsylvania. We were up in the same area a couple of weeks ago and it was beautiful. We could only stay Saturday night and were lucky enough to get a reservation at Hamanassett. This B&B is absolutely exquisite with antiques that compliment the house without being overwhelming. And how they keep everything so clean - I will never know. We stayed in the second floor Inverness Suite and loved the door tag with our names. This is a large suite in the front of the house with windows on three sides and a huge porch that faces the Koi pond. The waterfall and Koi pond are stunning. The Koi are fascinating and we watched them from the porch for an hour after dinner Saturday night. The bed was large and comfortable (with Comphy Sheets - which I have on my bed at home). Now all this is well and good but the breakfast can make or break our stays at B&Bs. Well, you should have no worries because it was one of the best breakfasts we have ever had at a B&B. The breakfast room was set and it was charming. They had lovely outdoor seating (bugs love to bite me - so we passed even though I really wanted to enjoy the beautiful morning). The main dish was superb - a French toast with gorgonzola cheese filling and a bourbon/walnut syrup. Oh my, was it good and Ashley and Glenn were perfect hosts.

After our lame first morning's breakfast we saw our proprietors leaving with their suitcases. We asked , are you also going on vacation. Glenn said "we're going to look at new property in Virginia". It was said very brusquely. We were left in the hands of Amanda, a very friendly young lady. She answered all our questions, served breakfast and even showed us how to feed the Koi. Amanda was wonderful but she's not the owner. When you pay B&B prices you expect the B&B experience. And we did not get that. The building was beautiful and the Koi were large. The one breakfast ostensibly prepared by Ashley was lousy. It's main course was diced soft boiled eggs over a grocery store tasting biscuit. It was bland, tasteless and disappointing. Again not the B&B experience. The other breakfasts served by Amanda were better but still nothing special. She followed Ashley's food playbook. Some of the items felt like they came out of the freezer. If I want muffins from the freezer, I already have some at home. The fresh fruit plate on the last day was good. When we started the vacation we thought about extending it by a day and in the end we did extend it. We just spent the last night in a local Hilton Garden Inn where the breakfast was surprisingly fresh and delicious. When we made the reservation why didn't Glenn tell us then that they wouldn't be there to take care of us? He charged our credit card at check in for the full amount of the stay. Was that so we wouldn't leave when we found out the innkeepers were gone. It seems a bit underhanded. I do not begrudge their right to a vacation but they should let people know and not hide the facts. All in all we felt very disappointed and cheated.

...This is a very charming Bnb with a lot of character and history. I've always been a fan of the types of buildings that you walk into and feel like you're in a different era, and this place definitely fits the type. From what I can tell, the architecture, fixtures, doorways, etc are all original with lots of the furnishes being chosen for their antique appeal. ...We stayed in the Devon Suite on the 3rd floor which was large, beautiful, and very clean. My favorite part of the room was the armoire which looked like you could walk through it to find Narnia. ...I don't have anything bad to say about the inn keepers, they were very nice and take good care of their inn. They made delicious breakfasts which included warm apples topped with bri cheese and cinnamon......so good!

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding a few weeks ago - the wedding was at Terrain at Styer's and the bride was going to get ready at the B&B before the wedding then stay there with the groom the night of the wedding. The owners of the B&B were so outrageously rude and abrasive that we were all shocked they could even work in this industry. After the owner yelled at the limo driver for blocking the driveway (no one else was in it and we would have completely understood if asked nicely to move once), he yelled at the bride (who was standing there in her wedding gown) for "taking advantage of the situation" and slammed the front door of the B&B. Less than an hour out from the ceremony, a few friends went in to collect all of their stuff because no one wanted them to have to stay there that night - they stayed at a hotel across from Terrain instead. In addition, the owners were rude on the phone about directions (it's hard to find). One bridesmaid's husband came with their 1 month old baby and they were going to sit in the lobby while we all got dressed. One of the owners told them they couldn't sit inside because they were not guests so they had to wait in the sun room - the baby was really hot out there so her husband brought him up to the room to us. Both owners were equally shockingly rude and the only explanation I can think of (although there is no excuse) is that they dislike either young people or wedding parties. For some context, we were a very small wedding party - 4 bridesmaids and were not drinking or partying at the hotel.

Stayed there this summer. Owner had an attitude, personality like a carpet. The breakfast was awful, dried out waffle, frozen yogurt, lousy coffee. Lovely building. lovely room, but you can find those anywhere. The couple who owns thiis place needs a major lesson in manners. Update: When I said "frozen yogurt" I meant regular yogurt that had been kept so cold it was partially frozen.

Go see three hundred reviews on Tripadvisor.com to prove that this place is superb. Proprietors are attentive and friendly. Property is charming and fun. All sorts of neat features from Port, cookies and DVD's to the friendly ponies whom you feed. Within easy one street drives of a number of cool tourist destinations. Breakfast was lovely and our unit (Inverness) was perfect. Highly recommended.

Great 1856 country house that has been lovingly managed by its owners/proprietors for more than 10 years. It is unusual to find an American Inn that is cared for with the dedication of European Inn managers, but this is one. From the moment that we arrived and were introduced to the house and its facilities by Ashley, we knew that we would treat this inn as if it were our own home. The other guests seem to have the same attitude and respect. It is family home that is warm and hospitable, filled with antiques and totally focused on the visitor. I've been to many historic inns on the Eastern seaboard. For this type of B&B, this is the best that I've found.
